Sweating Treatment - Swedan Types and Benefits

Swedan is a procedure that is performed before Panchakarma Therapy. In this, a person is suggested to take a steam bath in order to sweat. The sweating helps in eliminating some of the toxins of the body and the rest are eliminated by performing Panchakarma Therapy.
Types & Benefits Of Swedan
1. Shashtil Shali Pinda Swedan
It is also known as Navarakizhi. In this, the person is given a massage by applying the mixture of milk and rice to get some relief from pain and induce sweat. It restores muscle strength and rejuvenates the body. It also provides the nutritional qualities of milk to the bones and soft tissues of the body.
2. Patra Pinda Swedan
It is also known as Ela Kizhi. In this treatment, herbal drugs and medicinal plants are extracted from other procedures to be applied on joints and soft tissues to heal pains and rejuvenate muscles joints. It provides relief from swelling and stiffness. It also treats lower back pains and Osteoarthritis.
3. Churan Pinda Swedan
It is also known as Podikizhi. In this treatment, herbal powders are heated and sometimes fried in herbal oils and then rubbed against joints and soft tissues to reduce stiffness, swelling and pain. It has been effective in treatments of Lumbar and Cervical Spondylosis.
4. Baluka Swedan
It is also known as Valuka Swedan. In this treatment, heated sand is tied in a bolus and is applied to the pain affected areas and joints to reduce the pain and provide some relief from it. It can be applied anywhere on the body and is effective in treating Urustambha, Amavata, etc.
5. Nadi Swedan
This is a treatment where sweating is induced to a person by rolling an instrument also called Nadi Swedan Yantra. It is quite an easy method of applying heat to particular part of body. It relieves from pain and oedema. It brings softness to the skin and improves blood circulation.
6. Vashp Swedan
It is also known as Sarvang Swedan or Herbal Steam bath soothes sore muscles, elevates energy levels and rejuvenates skin. This treatment opens skin pores and elevates the body’s natural healing process. It is also a great therapy for glowing skin and toning the skin. It also helps in detoxification.
